A second farewell...

Well, another semester has come to end. That means we have to say our goodbyes again.  During this course I have sensed some certain strengths and weaknesses. I think one of the most apparent strength of the course is that this particular course is very important for the future generation of language teaching. I genuinely, with all my heart, believe that and I am forever grateful that this course is available to us. A weakness that I can talk about is, unfortunately, the fact that not all of us is fully integrated into the latest technology so some people have to have a really hard time catching. Then again, not all of us come from the same background but I hope in the near future, the future generations will all be able to equally access modern technology no matter the price tag. What I found easy was the fact that we can do our assignments without the need of going to the campus, I think being able to have assignments that we can do remotely at home is such a blessing. AI in Education and How My Classmates and I Utilized It

Image
Greetings! For our last assignment, our professor assigned us to create an AI-integrated teaching material.  AI is literally everywhere nowadays. I personally use it for my language learning activities everyday. It's quite practical and helps me get that particular information that I need whenever I need it.  But no matter how practical and 'good' it is, it is also creating some hardships for certain people. Generative AI taking over people's jobs is something that I have came across quite often on the internet. I don't know whether it will take over 'teaching' or not is something that I am not sure of yet. I hope not. For my assignment, I have paired up with two of my classmates. Deniz Göktepe , Erva Kaptan and I created an AI-integrated teaching material and ASSURE model to go along with it. The hardships that we encountered were finding an AI source that was free. I have only been using ChatGPT and it is free to some extent but other AI tools are not fr...

AR/VR Integration in the classroom?

Image
Hello! Today, I’m excited to share a groundbreaking concept that took me by surprise, and I’m confident it will amaze you as well. AR and VR integration into lectures. I swear I learn something new and mind boggling every week during my classes with Mrs. Kurt, and technology just keeps amazing me everyday.  During our research and preparation for this project, there were some hardships for sure. My partners Deniz Göktepe and Erva Kaptan also felt that learning block but we overcame it. For instance, we had a problem with the QR code that we put on for the project, we had issues with finding AR/VR integrated videos about our topic since it turned out to be a little 'niche'. Our topic was 'Water Crisis', which shouldn't actually be a 'niche' topic but unfortunately there were limited amount of resources so we were forced to improvise in some shape or form.  In our project we also talked about the climate change which is a hot topic of The European Union and...

Flipped class? What does it mean and how does it work?

Hello everyone, Today, we will explore the concept of the flipped classroom approach—a teaching strategy that I, too, was unfamiliar with until our professor, Gökçe Kurt, assigned us a group project to create a flipped classroom video. For this project, I collaborated with my friends Elif Karagöz and Derya Geçirgen . The three of us faced a learning curve as we worked to understand what a "flipped classroom" truly entails. We reviewed various examples of flipped classroom models, examined the resources and materials shared by our professor, and gradually developed our own version of this approach. Our professor provided us with valuable insights into her own experiences with the flipped classroom technique. She shared that she had implemented this teaching method years ago as part of an experimental study. In her research, she divided students into two groups: an experimental group, which followed the flipped classroom method, and a control group, which used traditional tea...

Ever heard of corpus-integrated worksheets? Well they are here!

Image
Hello everybody, today I'm here with a brand new idea that is gonna get the students to become more immersed into language learning. What I'm talking about is a corpus-integrated worksheet. You may ask 'What in the world is corpus?' Corpus (plural: corpora) is a term from the field of linguistics and refers to a large set of texts (usually in electronic format) which is considered to be representative of a language (or language variety, to be more precise) and is used to analyse it. In today’s day and age, every single thing is changing and becoming more and more integrated with technology. I’m not that old but my teachers have never used this type of teaching or worksheet technique to teach me and my classmates when I was in secondary school or highschool so that tells us something!I created a worksheet using a corpus with my classmates Derya Geçirgen and Elif Karagöz , you can see the worksheet by clicking here . We also created a lesson plan that is in accordance ...

Welcome back!

Well what I thought was a farewell apparently was NOT actually a farewell. Hello everybody! It's so exciting to  be back. This semester I'm taking the 'Current Issues in Teaching' lecture with my beloved professor Gökçe Teacher. See you very soon on my upcoming posts. Stay tuned!

A farewell...

Today, I'm not here with anything new. I'm here to say goodbyes! Throughout my entire semester, I have enjoyed this class a lot. I learned things that I have never even heard of and I thought I was a digital native lol. Before this lecture I had positive thoughts about technological integration in any type of education and after this lecture this thought of mine just got more enhanced. It also gave me insight so I am not believing in technological integration in education blindly anymore! At least I know some things now. This lecture has contributed to my technological knowledge a lot. The video task we did taught me how to screen record and how to integrate video games into creating an actual video. The podcast task taught me how to use and create sound effects to be used in voice recordings and also since I did it with a friend of mine, it helped m socialize better and use teamwork achieve something. And the task we did were so revolutionary and refreshing in my opinion, I t...
